Victor Robles from Seattle is known for being bold on the bases, but he may have been too bold at a tricky moment.

Robles was caught trying to steal home with the bases loaded and two outs in the first inning on Tuesday night against the New York Yankees.

This risky move was even more surprising because Justin Turner was at bat with a 3-0 count against Yankees pitcher Luis Gil when Robles made his attempt to score.

In the end, it didn’t affect the game much since the Yankees won 11-2. However, it did change the early feel of the game.

“He was taking a long time from first base, so we were aware that he might try something. But with a 3-0 count, it felt like a big break for us,” said Yankees manager Aaron Boone.

Gil struggled with his control, needing 24 pitches to get three outs. He had just missed a pitch to Turner when Robles broke for home. Gil reacted quickly, throwing the ball to catcher Austin Wells, who tagged Robles out just before he reached the plate.

Seattle chose not to review the play, and manager Dan Wilson checked with home plate umpire Jeremy Rehak to see if Turner had called time, but the call stood, and Gil got out of the inning.

This was the first time Robles was caught stealing since joining the Mariners, having been successful on all 25 of his previous attempts.
