Dallas Stars leading scorer Jason Robertson will be out for most of training camp but is expected to be ready for the season opener after surgery to remove a cyst from his foot.

General manager Jim Nill shared on Wednesday that Robertson had the surgery on July 30. While he will be present with the team during camp, he just started skating again after six weeks of being unable to put weight on his foot.

“He will not skate with the main team just because we’re going to restrict his activity and monitor his foot to make sure everything is healed properly,” Nill said. “The plan is maybe late in camp to get a little bit more action. … It’s just really a healing process now.”

Dallas, which reached the Western Conference Final in the last two seasons, begins training camp on Thursday. The season opener is set for October 10 against Nashville.

Robertson has been the Stars’ top scorer for the past two seasons, playing in all 164 regular-season games, and was the second-leading scorer in the two seasons before that. Last season, he tallied 80 points, which included 29 goals and a team-high 51 assists.

The 25-year-old forward has accumulated 314 points in his career, with 133 goals and 181 assists in 292 regular-season games, along with 38 points in 45 playoff games.

He was drafted by the Stars in the second round in 2017, in the same draft that included defenseman Miro Heiskanen and goaltender Jake Oettinger.

Two years ago, Robertson missed most of training camp due to a contract holdout before signing a four-year deal worth $31 million. That season, he went on to score 109 points, including 46 goals and 63 assists, with 34 games where he scored multiple points.
