Miami quarterback Cam Ward reached 15,000 career passing yards, making him the 13th player recognized by the NCAA to achieve this milestone.
Ward needed 89 yards in Saturday night’s game against South Florida to reach the mark and surpassed it with a 22-yard pass to Isaiah Horton in the first quarter during the Hurricanes’ 50-15 win.
The fifth-year senior joins Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel as the only active college quarterback with more than 15,000 passing yards. Gabriel has a career total of 15,779 yards in 53 games at three different schools, including UCF and Oklahoma before moving to Oregon.
This game was the 48th of Ward’s career.
He played his first two seasons at FCS Incarnate Word, where he threw for 6,908 yards, and the last two years at Washington State, throwing for 6,968 yards. So far this year at Miami, he has 1,439 yards in four games, making him the first player at the school to start his career with four straight games of 300 or more passing yards, bringing his total to 15,315.
Ward completed 24 of 34 passes for 404 yards and three touchdowns against USF, with one interception.
“He’s been great for a long time,” said Miami receiver Isaiah Horton, who caught a touchdown on Saturday. “As soon as he got on campus, he made his mark instantly. I love playing with him.”
