Tennessee Titans coach Brian Callahan is trying to stop any talk about a quarterback controversy, expressing his excitement to see Will Levis improve in his second NFL season.

Callahan earned his first win on Monday night with a score of 31-12 in Miami, using backup Mason Rudolph after Levis hurt his right shoulder.

Levis got injured while trying to scramble for a first down and felt pain in his shoulder while trying to throw on the sidelines.

“It’s hard to play starting quarterback because it’s hard to play quarterback in the NFL as everybody knows,” Callahan said Tuesday. “There does take some development.

Guys make young player mistakes. You see it all across the league right now, and we’re going to find out everything about Will that we can.”

With the Titans (1-3) heading into a bye week, Callahan said he chose to protect Levis during a victory that marked the franchise’s first win since the end of the 2023 regular season. He hopes Levis’ shoulder will be okay for Tennessee’s next game after the bye.

This is the only way for the 33rd overall pick in 2023 to keep improving. Callahan emphasized that Levis must continue to show progress.

“He needs to play better for us,” Callahan said. “And at the end of the day, I believe that he will.”
