Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson is now listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars after suffering an oblique injury last week. The injury occurred during a collision in the Colts’ 27-24 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

While Richardson reported feeling better as the week progressed, the team has been cautious with his recovery, limiting him to light practice activities. Given the slow approach to his return, it is unlikely Richardson will suit up for the upcoming game.

Joe Flacco is expected to take over as the starting quarterback in Richardson’s absence. Flacco, who replaced Richardson during last week’s game, played a key role in preserving the win, throwing for 168 yards and two touchdowns without any turnovers.

Flacco commented that it’s easier to prepare as a starter since he has had the entire week to practice with the first team. Having more time to understand the game plan should help him as he steps into the role, compared to coming off the bench mid-game as he did against the Steelers.

Injuries continue to affect the Colts beyond Richardson. Center Ryan Kelly is doubtful about playing, potentially missing his second consecutive game due to a neck injury. Star running back Jonathan Taylor has already been ruled out with an ankle sprain.

On the defensive side, the Colts are also missing key players, with defensive end Tyquan Lewis on injured reserve and cornerback Kenny Moore II set to miss his second game with a hip injury. These absences could impact the team’s performance on both sides of the ball.

The Jacksonville Jaguars received good news ahead of the matchup, as defensive end Josh Hines-Allen has cleared concussion protocol and is set to play. However, tight end Evan Engram remains questionable with a hamstring injury that has kept him out since Week 1. The Jaguars will hope to capitalize on the Colts’ injury situation as they look to gain an advantage in the game.

Anthony Richardson’s latest injury has reignited discussions about his long-term durability. Since being drafted fourth overall in 2023, Richardson has missed significant time, including 13 of 21 possible games due to various injuries.

He responded to concerns earlier this week, noting that injuries are an inevitable part of the game, especially given the physical nature of his playing style. Despite some struggles with turnovers, Richardson has shown promise this season, ranking highly in yards per attempt and air yards per attempt among NFL quarterbacks.
