Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs spoke to reporters on Friday about his recent absence from two practices and a one-game suspension, without sharing many details. He admitted he needs to improve his communication.
“I absolutely wish I would’ve handled things differently,” Doubs said, addressing the media for the first time since returning to practice this week.
Packers coach Matt LaFleur mentioned that Doubs is expected to play on Sunday when the Packers (3-2) face the Arizona Cardinals (2-3).
Doubs missed practices on October 3 and 4. On October 5, the Packers announced he would be suspended for one game due to what they called conduct detrimental to the team. The Packers went on to win against the Los Angeles Rams 24-19 without him the following day.
“There’s just some things I have going on off the field,” Doubs explained. “I just had to make sure that I had that under control.”
He also mentioned that he spoke to the team after he returned to practice this week.
Doubs, a fourth-round pick from Nevada in 2022, clarified that his absence from practice wasn’t about wanting a larger role in the offense and that he had not asked for a trade.
“I’m just thankful that I’m still here,” Doubs said. “It’s a great staff, great players and great support.”
LaFleur expressed that he appreciates Doubs’ attitude since returning to practice. “He’s done a nice job,” LaFleur said. “He’s gone in, worked, just done a great job.”
So far this season, Doubs has made 12 catches for 169 yards and hasn’t scored a touchdown. Last year, he had 59 receptions for 674 yards and eight touchdowns during the regular season, plus 10 catches for 234 yards and one touchdown in Green Bay’s two playoff games.
