Caleb Williams is finding his rhythm, and the Bears are collecting victories. Things are looking promising for Chicago.
The Bears went into their bye week with a 4-2 record and three consecutive wins after defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars 35-16 on Sunday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
This is their best stretch since winning three games in a row in late 2020, and they have a chance to make it four straight for the first time since the 2018 season, when they claimed the NFC North title.
They will aim to continue this success in Week 8 when they face Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders, featuring the quarterbacks picked with the top two selections in this year’s draft.
Daniels has better statistics, but Williams, who is from Washington, seems to be finding his groove.
“I think the way he’s prepared going into it, from Week 1 all the way to Week 6,” coach Matt Eberflus said Monday. “He’s proven that he’s gotten better every single week. We’ve gotten better as a football team.”
In the last three games against the Los Angeles Rams, Carolina, and Jacksonville, Williams has completed 60 of 81 passes for 687 yards. The 2022 Heisman Trophy winner from Southern California has thrown seven touchdown passes and one interception during this time, after tossing two touchdowns and four interceptions in the first three games.
Williams threw four touchdown passes against Jacksonville and might have had a fifth if he hadn’t taken too long on a pass meant for DJ Moore, which was intercepted.
He ended the game completing 23 of 29 passes for 226 yards, achieving a rating of 124.4, just below his 126.2 rating from the previous week’s 36-10 win against the Panthers.
The highest rating by a Bears rookie since the AFL-NFL merger was Jim McMahon’s 121.1 against the Rams on December 26, 1982.
