Eddie Lacy, a former NFL running back, was arrested on September 30 in Scottsdale, Arizona, with a reported blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .325%, which is about four times the state’s legal limit. The police were called after a 911 report described a potentially impaired driver, leading to Lacy’s arrest around 10:40 p.m. Lacy, who played for the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks, was charged with four DUI violations, including an “extreme DUI” due to his high BAC, and for possessing an open alcohol container in his vehicle. In Arizona, an extreme DUI applies to a BAC of at least .15%.

When police interacted with Lacy, they noted that his speech was slow, slurred, and mumbled, which further indicated impairment. Bodycam footage shows Lacy claiming that he had only one drink on a flight from Wisconsin to Arizona prior to the incident. This arrest adds to Lacy’s legal troubles, as he had previously been involved in a DUI case in March 2022 in Scottsdale. In that case, he faced five charges, including two counts of extreme DUI, though four charges were dismissed, and he pleaded guilty to an extreme DUI with a BAC of .20% or higher.

In addition to his 2022 DUI charges, Lacy also pleaded guilty in September 2022 to driving with a suspended, revoked, or canceled license. Lacy, who had a successful college football career at Alabama before being drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2013, enjoyed early success in the NFL. He won the 2013 Offensive Rookie of the Year award after rushing for 1,178 yards and 11 touchdowns in his debut season and was named to the Pro Bowl the same year.

However, after his impressive first two seasons, Lacy’s NFL career began to decline. Injuries started to plague him in 2015, particularly ankle and groin injuries, and he was placed on injured reserve during the 2016 season after suffering another ankle injury. By the end of his rookie contract, the Packers did not offer him a long-term deal, and Lacy’s weight issues further complicated his attempts to secure another contract.

Lacy eventually signed with the Seattle Seahawks for the 2017 season after managing to meet weight requirements. However, the Seahawks had a crowded backfield that limited his playing time. He appeared in just nine games, starting three, and ran for only 179 yards without scoring a touchdown, which ultimately marked the end of his NFL career.
