The Kansas City Chiefs seem to be making history almost every week.

Last week, Patrick Mahomes became the fastest player in NFL history to throw for 30,000 yards during the win against Las Vegas. Travis Kelce is just one touchdown reception away from passing Tony Gonzalez for the franchise record.

Here’s another milestone: The Chiefs, currently 7-0 and the last unbeaten team in the league, can set a new team record on Monday night against Tampa Bay by winning their 14th straight game, dating back to last season.

This impressive run includes their journey to a second consecutive Super Bowl title and is the longest in the NFL since they won 13 in a row during the 2019-20 seasons.

“Guys have accepted the challenge,” Mahomes said, “and that’s why we’ve been able to win these games we’ve won.”

What’s most remarkable about this winning streak is that the Chiefs haven’t played particularly well on offense, especially after losing their top two wide receivers and starting running back to likely season-ending injuries.

Running back Kareem Hunt, who was a free agent at home when Kansas City called, has returned to the team and performed well. Additionally, the recent trade for DeAndre Hopkins is already showing positive results, even though the three-time All-Pro wide receiver has had only a few practices with his new team.

“They know how to win,” Tampa Bay coach Todd Bowles said. “They’ve been through it many times. They know how to win close games. They know how to win blowouts. So you’re going to have to play a heck of a ball game to beat them.”

The Buccaneers (4-4) have also proven they can win close games, but they’ve lost some as well. They started the season 3-1, handing the Lions their only loss in the first eight weeks. However, they have since lost three of their last four games, including a 31-26 defeat to the Falcons last week.
