Edge rusher Bryce Huff’s role in the Eagles’ defense has been a topic of discussion since the season began because it hasn’t been as big as expected, especially after he signed a three-year, $51 million contract in free agency. This came up again on Wednesday.

Huff has recorded 1.5 sacks this season, but he has played fewer snaps than three other edge rushers. In last Sunday’s win over the Jaguars, Huff played only six snaps, which led some people to wonder if the team was holding him back for a potential trade before Tuesday’s deadline.

After the game, head coach Nick Sirianni explained that Huff had a hand injury during warmups. On Wednesday, Sirianni was asked about Huff’s role going forward.

“Still be in the mix, in the rotation of the rushers,” Sirianni said, according to a team transcript. “Again, I think the ability [to have] fewer rush reps for some of those guys – one part of it is that we played fewer plays, but also that we feel good about the rotation.”

Sirianni said he has “a ton of confidence” in Huff, but also mentioned that Jalyx Hunt will start to get more chances in the rotation, meaning there might not be a clear pattern to the defensive line rotations for the Eagles.
