Left-handed pitcher T.J. McFarland will stay with the Athletics after agreeing to a one-year, $1.8 million contract on Thursday.
He can earn up to an extra $250,000 in performance bonuses based on games played: $50,000 for 50 games, and $100,000 each for 60 and 70 games.
McFarland was traded from the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Athletics on March 26. He posted a 3.81 ERA in 79 games, which was both a career best and the highest among major league pitchers that season. He allowed 22.7% of inherited runners to score.
At 35 years old, McFarland has 12 years of experience in the major leagues, with a record of 26-20 and a 4.10 ERA across 433 games. He has played for Baltimore (2013-16), Arizona (2017-19), Oakland (2020, ’24), St. Louis (2021-22), and the New York Mets (2023).
