Will Levis is set to return as the starting quarterback for the Tennessee Titans against the Los Angeles Rams this Sunday, as announced by head coach Brian Callahan. Callahan noted that Levis had an excellent week of practice and was feeling great, stating that it’s the best he’s looked in recent weeks. The team is excited to see Levis back on the field, as he prepares to resume his starting role.
Levis had been sidelined for the past three games due to a Grade 2 AC joint sprain in his right shoulder, which he sustained during Week 4 against the Miami Dolphins. Although he tried to return in Week 5 against the Indianapolis Colts, he experienced discomfort and wasn’t fully ready to play. Over the past week, Levis has made significant progress, being listed as a full participant in practice, a notable improvement from the previous week when he was limited.
Last week, Levis seemed close to returning, but he still felt soreness after throwing for consecutive days for the first time since the injury. Despite the setback, he continued his recovery by going through a simulated game on Sunday, which he reported feeling good about. Levis emphasized the importance of being able to make all the throws with full range of motion, something he needed to ensure before taking the field again.
Mason Rudolph had filled in for Levis during his absence, and under his leadership, the Titans won their only two games of the season. Rudolph threw for 806 yards, with four touchdowns and four interceptions in four starts. Despite the team’s mixed record with Rudolph, the offense showed improvement, surpassing 400 yards in total offense in the last two games, a stark contrast to the struggles they had under Levis, who couldn’t surpass 300 yards in any of his three starts.
Levis remains focused on his role and expressed a commitment to continuing to improve as the team’s quarterback. While he acknowledged the benefit of his teammates gaining experience in his absence, he is eager to return to form and operate the offense effectively. He also expressed his desire to be the best quarterback possible for his team, highlighting his dedication to helping the Titans succeed moving forward.
