The Detroit Lions are having their best start in 70 years, and part of the reason for that success is Jared Goff’s play. However, the Lions won their most recent game despite some mistakes from Goff.
Goff threw a career-high five interceptions, putting the team in a 16-point hole. Despite this, the Lions managed to come back and beat the Houston Texans, who are leading the AFC South.
After the surprising win, Goff walked toward the middle of the field with coach Dan Campbell and had a few words. “We’re just different, that’s really what he said,” Campbell remembered. “And I agreed with him. We are. That’s the way we’re built.”
With that victory, the Lions became the first team since 1970 to win a game after trailing by at least 15 points and throwing five interceptions.
“There are a lot of good teams in our league, but you’d be hard-pressed to find some who have been through what the core group of this team has been through,” Goff said.
Detroit, with a record of 8-1, has won seven games in a row. It’s the best start for the team since 1954, and the Lions are now one win away from achieving something the franchise hasn’t done in 90 years.
If the NFC-leading Lions can beat Jacksonville (2-8), they will have nine wins in their first 10 games for the first time since 1934.
The Jaguars won’t have Trevor Lawrence again for this game due to a left shoulder injury. Mac Jones is expected to start in his place, and the Jaguars are hopeful that Lawrence will return after their bye next week.
