The New York Jets interviewed former Tennessee Titans general manager Jon Robinson on Tuesday for their open GM position.

Robinson is the second known candidate to meet with the Jets, as they interviewed former Atlanta Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff on Monday.

Robinson was the Titans’ general manager from 2016 until he was fired near the end of the 2022 season. Under his leadership, Tennessee had a record of 66-43, made the playoffs four times, and won the AFC South twice.

The Jets began their search for a new GM after firing Joe Douglas on Nov. 19. Phil Savage, a senior football adviser since 2019, has been serving as the interim general manager.

New York is able to meet with GM candidates who are not under contract with other teams. However, interviews with candidates currently employed by other teams can only happen after those teams’ seasons end.

The Jets, who are 4-10 this season, are also searching for a head coach after firing Robert Saleh on Oct. 8 and replacing him with defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich as the interim coach.

Both hires will need to address the team’s 14-year playoff drought, the longest active drought in the NFL. They will also have to figure out whether quarterback Aaron Rodgers will return next season — if he still wants to play — and possibly beyond.

The 48-year-old Robinson never had a losing season in his first six years with the Titans. Some of his top draft picks included running back Derrick Henry and offensive tackle Jack Conklin in 2016, and wide receiver A.J. Brown in 2019.

However, Robinson faced criticism for not reaching an agreement with Brown and trading him to Philadelphia during the 2022 NFL draft. This move was opposed by then-coach Mike Vrabel, who could also be a candidate for the Jets’ head coaching job.

Before joining Tennessee, Robinson was the director of player personnel for Tampa Bay for three seasons and worked in New England’s scouting department for 11 years.
