New York City FC announced today that they have signed midfielder Jacob Arroyave to a first-team contract, keeping him with the club through 2027, with an option for 2028.

The 17-year-old Arroyave becomes the 15th Homegrown player in the club’s history, marking an important step in his development within the organization. He has progressed through the club’s youth system and impressed during the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro season.

He played 12 matches, including nine starts, and scored two goals. Arroyave also started in the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup First Round match against FC Motown, where he assisted in the team’s victory.

“We’re excited that Jacob will officially join our first team roster in 2025,” said Sporting Director David Lee. “Since joining the club, he has developed quickly and stood out during the 2024 preseason. His contributions to New York City FC II in MLS NEXT Pro and their successful U.S. Open Cup run have been valuable.

The role of New York City FC II is crucial in helping players transition from the Academy to the first team, and Jacob has gained a lot from this process.”

Arroyave is originally from Passaic, New Jersey. He joined the club’s MLS NEXT Pro team in 2023 after a successful youth career with Cedar Stars Bergen. He was invited to join New York City FC’s first-team preseason ahead of the 2024 MLS season.

“I’d also like to thank the staff at Cedar Stars Academy Bergen for their work in developing Jacob before he joined New York City FC,” added Lee. “Jacob is a great example of the incredible soccer talent in the New York area. We are excited to continue working with him and help him reach his full potential.”

“It’s an amazing feeling to sign my first professional contract with New York City FC,” said Arroyave. “I’ve learned so much during my time with the academy and New York City FC II. The club has created a great environment for me to grow, and it has helped me prepare for training with the first team.

I’m very thankful for my coaches, teammates, and family, who have all supported me in my journey. I’m looking forward to getting back on the field and representing the club at the highest level.”

Arroyave is currently recovering from an ACL injury he sustained last season. He is expected to return to action in the next few months.
