There won’t be an NHL All-Star Game this season because of the upcoming 4 Nations Face-off tournament, but NHL.com has still chosen their picks for the midseason Rookie All-Star Team. Among the standout players, Calgary Flames goalie Dustin Wolf is leading the charge.
Wolf, with an 18-8-6 record, has been crucial in keeping the Flames near a playoff spot, possibly their first since 2022. He’s ranked 10th among NHL goalies in wins and sits in the top 10 with a .915 save percentage. His goals-against average (GAA) is 2.56, putting him in the top 20 among qualified goalies.
As a rookie, Wolf leads the league in wins and ranks high in GAA and save percentage. He’s been especially strong at home, with a 12-3-1 record at the Saddledome this season.
His name was not in the Calder Trophy conversation until after Christmas, but now he’s one of the top contenders for Rookie of the Year.
Fans on social media have started advocating for Wolf to be a Calder front-runner. If the Flames make the playoffs, especially with their scoring struggles, Wolf could even be in the running for the Hart Trophy.
Wolf has already earned a reputation for his awards. He won the WHL Top Goaltender award in 2020 and 2021, followed by the AHL Best Goaltender award in 2022 and 2023, and the AHL MVP award in 2023.
Now, with his first full-time NHL promotion, Wolf has been nearly flawless and shows signs of becoming one of the best goalies Calgary has ever seen. This impressive performance is why he earned a spot on NHL.com’s midseason Rookie All-Star Team.
