The Kansas City Chiefs are giving wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown another opportunity in the upcoming NFL season. Brown has agreed to a one-year contract worth up to $11 million, according to NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero. This marks Brown’s second consecutive one-year deal with the team as he looks to make a bigger impact after an injury-plagued 2024 campaign.

Injury Setback and Late Return Hindered Brown’s Impact in 2024 Season

Brown initially signed with the Chiefs in 2024 but suffered a shoulder injury during the preseason, which significantly limited his ability to contribute. The injury required surgery, forcing him to miss most of the season. He didn’t make his debut until Week 16, and his late return resulted in minimal production, totaling just nine receptions for 91 yards in two regular-season games.

Due to his late arrival, Brown struggled to find a rhythm in the playoffs. In three postseason games, including Kansas City’s Super Bowl LIX loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, he managed only five catches for 50 yards. His limited contributions, however, didn’t deter the Chiefs from giving him another shot, believing he can fulfill the role of a speedy deep threat in their offense.

Chiefs Face Uncertainty at Wide Receiver Despite Brown’s Return for 2025 Season

While Brown’s return adds depth, Kansas City still faces significant challenges in rebuilding their receiving corps for the 2025 season. Key veterans such as DeAndre Hopkins, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Justin Watson, and Mecole Hardman are set to enter free agency when the market opens on March 12. Additionally, standout receiver Rashee Rice is recovering from a serious knee injury that ended his 2024 season prematurely.

At 27 years old, Brown has another chance to prove himself as a reliable target for quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Ranked No. 41 in Gregg Rosenthal’s Top 101 Free Agents of 2025, he possesses the speed and playmaking ability the Chiefs originally sought. If he can stay healthy and build chemistry with Mahomes, Brown could finally make the impact Kansas City had envisioned when they first brought him in.
