Veteran forward Jeff Skinner has signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the San Jose Sharks, the team announced on Friday. The 33-year-old brings a wealth of experience to the Sharks after playing last season with the Edmonton Oilers, where he recorded 29 points (16 goals, 13 assists) in 72 regular-season games. In the postseason, Skinner contributed two points in five appearances as the Oilers made a deep playoff run.
Grier Confident in Skinner’s Experience, Instincts, and Ability to Strengthen Sharks’ Offense
San Jose Sharks general manager Mike Grier expressed optimism about Skinner’s ability to contribute offensively and lead by example. Grier emphasized that despite Skinner’s limited power-play opportunities and adjusting to a team on a deep playoff run, the forward showed strong traits like quickness, competitiveness, and offensive instincts.
These attributes made him a desirable addition to the Sharks’ roster, particularly as the team seeks to boost its offensive depth.

Jeff Skinner enters the 2025-26 season with a strong track record in the NHL. Drafted seventh overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2010, he has amassed 699 points (373 goals, 326 assists) in 1,078 regular-season games across stints with the Hurricanes, Buffalo Sabres, and Oilers.
Remarkably, he made his first playoff appearance only last season, after 15 seasons in the league. Despite the long wait for postseason action, his recent performance suggests he still has plenty to offer.
Skinner Expected to Boost Top-Six Scoring, Mentor Sharks’ Emerging Young Talent
Grier highlighted Skinner’s projected role within the Sharks’ top-six forward group, expecting him to bring much-needed scoring depth. Even in a secondary role with Edmonton and without power-play time, Skinner managed to tally 16 goals, demonstrating his knack for finding the net.
The Sharks are hopeful that Skinner can mirror the impact of players like Tyler Toffoli, not only in production but also in providing leadership to the team’s younger players.
Skinner’s NHL journey began with a stellar rookie campaign, earning him the Calder Trophy in 2010-11 after he posted 63 points in 82 games with Carolina. His career has been marked by consistency and professionalism, traits that San Jose values as it continues to rebuild and develop young talent. With his skill, experience, and leadership qualities, Skinner is expected to be a key contributor both on and off the ice for the Sharks this upcoming season.
