In the seventh inning, Jake Cronenworth drew a bases-loaded walk after an error by shortstop Tim Anderson, helping the San Diego Padres secure a 2-1 victory over the Miami Marlins on Monday.

This win marked the Padres’ second consecutive victory at home, following a stretch of five straight losses at Petco Park.

It was the second day in a row that the Padres managed to score runs through small-ball tactics. They avoided a sweep by the New York Yankees on Sunday with a 5-2 win, breaking a streak of losing consecutive home series.

Cronenworth reflected on the team’s ability to capitalize on opportunities, especially late in the game, over the past two days.

In the seventh inning, Ha-Seong Kim singled, and Fernando Tatis Jr. reached base due to Anderson’s error. Despite a flyout and a pitching change, the Padres capitalized on another error by Anderson, with Cronenworth drawing a crucial walk to bring in a run.

Cronenworth described his approach against the new pitcher and celebrated the successful at-bat. Robert Suarez pitched a perfect ninth inning to secure his 16th save, while Adrian Morejon earned the win.

San Diego starter Michael King had faced criticism from fans after the Padres’ recent struggles, including being swept by the last-place Colorado Rockies and losing the first two games against the Yankees.
