The Washington Commanders announced on Monday that they were informed about a lawsuit filed in civil court last week against their kicker, Brandon McManus. The Jacksonville Jaguars also confirmed they are facing the same legal action.
A spokesperson for the Commanders stated that they are investigating the matter and have been in contact with McManus’ agent and the NFL office. They emphasized their commitment to taking such allegations seriously.
According to ESPN, two women have accused McManus of sexually assaulting them during a charter flight to London last year when he played for the Jaguars. The Jaguars acknowledged the complaint and stressed the importance of maintaining an organization with high standards of character and integrity.
The women, identified as Jane Doe I and Jane Doe II, allege that McManus acted inappropriately during the flight, and they also criticize the Jaguars for allegedly failing to supervise him and ensure a safe working environment for their staff. They are seeking more than $1 million in damages and requesting a jury trial.
McManus’ lawyer has strongly denied the accusations, calling them “absolutely fictitious and demonstrably false.” They intend to vigorously defend McManus and refute the claims, which they perceive as an attempt at extortion.
McManus, who is set to turn 33 in July, recently signed with Washington in March after spending the first nine seasons of his NFL career with the Denver Broncos. He played college football at Temple University.
