Alex Bregman hit two home runs and drove in four runs, helping the Houston Astros secure a 9-2 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Monday night.
Bregman’s first homer came off Oakland’s starter Ross Stripling in the fourth inning, reminiscent of a home run he hit against Stripling during the 2018 All-Star Game.
In the seventh inning, Bregman struck again with another homer, this time off Mitch Spence. Despite having only one home run in 144 at-bats this season, Bregman had a standout performance, marking his sixth career multihomer game.
Reflecting on his success, Bregman mentioned, “When you’re not hitting well, you have to find a way to improve your swing.” He attributed his success to going back to basics and focusing on certain techniques.
Bregman’s contributions didn’t end with home runs; he also hit a double in the eighth inning, bringing in Trey Cabbage and Jeremy Peña and extending Houston’s lead to 7-2. This performance was significant considering Bregman’s struggles in May and his batting average for the season.
Astros manager Joe Espada expressed his satisfaction with Bregman’s success, highlighting his hard work and dedication to improvement.
The Astros’ recent victories, including a series win against Detroit, have boosted their morale. Meanwhile, the Athletics have faced a downturn, losing four of their last five games. Manager Mark Kotsay acknowledged Bregman’s prowess as a hitter and emphasized the importance of avoiding such mistakes in future games.
