Bryan Reynolds had an outstanding game, going 5 for 5 with a home run and two doubles, while Mitch Keller pitched six shutout innings, helping the Pittsburgh Pirates secure an 8-6 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night.

The Pirates’ Jack Suwinski and Yasmani Grandal both hit two-run homers. In the eighth inning, Jake Bauers hit his first career grand slam for the Brewers, who mounted a comeback after trailing 7-2.

“It was a wild and back-and-forth game, but our offense performed well and we came out on top,” said Pirates manager Derek Shelton.

Milwaukee’s rally started when an error by shortstop Oneil Cruz allowed the Brewers to load the bases with no outs in the eighth inning. Bauers took advantage by hitting a 3-2 sinker from Josh Fleming over the right-field wall.

After a walk and a stolen base, the Brewers had the potential tying run on base, but Pittsburgh’s Hunter Stratton struck out Christian Yelich to end the threat.

Reynolds then added insurance for the Pirates in the ninth inning with a 421-foot home run to center field, completing his first career five-hit game.
