During the Q2 part of qualifying, Carlos Sainz made a big mistake, crashing into the barriers on the main straight of the Shanghai International Circuit.

While pushing hard in the middle of qualifying, Sainz went a bit wide in the final corner, hitting the higher part of the curb. This caused the back of his Ferrari to slide out and spin 180 degrees before hitting the barriers on the other side of the track.

This incident stopped the qualifying session with red flags, but Sainz managed to get his damaged car back to the pits. The front wing seemed to be the most damaged part.

On the team radio, Sainz mentioned he couldn’t provide feedback on the suspension and asked if he could go faster to maximize the time for repairs.

With 6 minutes and 44 seconds remaining in Q2, Sainz returned to the pits, leaving a chance for him to get back on track if the car is fixed in time. The mechanics are working hard to check the car and repair it before the session resumes. Marshals are also clearing the gravel and fixing the tire barrier.
