The New Orleans Saints have reached an agreement with former Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay on a one-year contract potentially valued at $5 million, according to a person familiar with the situation Tuesday night.

The individual, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity as the deal had not been officially announced but was first reported by NFL Network, revealed that Gay has spent his entire four-year NFL career with the Chiefs after being drafted in the second round from Mississippi State in 2020.

Throughout his tenure in Kansas City, Gay has appeared in 57 games, making 47 starts, accumulating 233 tackles, five sacks, four fumble recoveries, four interceptions, and two forced fumbles.

Last season, he started 15 games, registering 58 tackles, including one sack, while also recovering three fumbles, forcing one, and intercepting a pass.

Gay’s addition bolsters a Saints linebacker group led by defensive captain Demario Davis, who recently agreed to a two-year extension through 2025. This move marks the second consecutive offseason where the Saints have acquired a former member of the Chiefs’ defensive line, following defensive tackle Khalen Saunders joining New Orleans in free agency last year.
