Phillip Tietz scored his eighth goal of the season, and Sven Michel also scored against his former team to help Augsburg secure a 2-0 victory over Union Berlin in a somewhat uneventful Bundesliga match on Friday.
Tietz capitalized on a mistake from Union Berlin’s defense and managed to slot his shot past the goalkeeper Frederik Rønnow early in the second half, giving Augsburg the lead.
Michel found the net after a quick exchange with Arne Maier late in the game, securing all three points for Augsburg.
The win brings Augsburg closer to the top six teams in the league, potentially earning them a spot in European competitions next season. They currently sit in seventh place, three points behind Eintracht Frankfurt, although Frankfurt has played one less game.
Union Berlin remains in 13th place with 29 points. They have struggled to score goals this season, having the second lowest goal tally in the league after Cologne.
