Mitch Garver

Seattle’s designated hitter Mitch Garver was taken out of the Mariners’ lineup because of back spasms before their game against the Boston Red Sox on Friday night. The team said Garver is day-to-day.

Manager Scott Servais mentioned that Garver felt the issue when he arrived at the stadium but felt better after the game. Servais hopes Garver will be able to play on Saturday.

Mariners vs Sox

Garver, who was the Mariners’ top free-agent signing this offseason, had a strong season last year with the Texas Rangers, batting .270 with 19 home runs and 50 RBIs in 87 games.

He also contributed with three home runs and 14 RBIs during the postseason, helping the Rangers win their first World Series title. In the Mariners’ opening-day game against Boston on Thursday, Garver went 1 for 4 with a double.
