Bayern Munich sports director Max Eberl has disclosed that the club has presented its ultimate offer to Canada left-back Alphonso Davies for extending his contract amidst rumored interest from Real Madrid.
“I can affirm that we presented Alphonso with a very specific, appreciative proposal,” Eberl informed Sport Bild magazine on Wednesday. “At some point in life, you have to make a decision, either yes or no.”
Davies’ existing contract with Bayern is set to expire after the next season, implying that the Bavarian giants could potentially lose the 23-year-old player in 2025 without compensation if he opts not to prolong his stay.
Reports from Spanish media outlets suggest that Davies may have already reached a deal with Real Madrid regarding a transfer.
However, Eberl stated that the La Liga leaders have not made any contact. Should Davies depart the club after this season, Bayern could demand a transfer fee.
“No club desires to lose players without compensation,” Eberl remarked during his introduction last month.
Davies, who has recorded 15 goals in 45 appearances for Canada, has amassed 127 Bundesliga outings for Bayern.
Originally from Ghana and now a naturalized Canadian, Davies joined Bayern in January 2019 following the club’s agreement on a transfer valued at up to $22 million with the Vancouver Whitecaps the previous year for the then-17-year-old, setting a record for a Major League Soccer player at the time.
