Belinda Bencic, the Olympic tennis champion, has welcomed her first child, as she announced on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old Bencic, along with her partner Martin Hromkovič, who also serves as her fitness coach, shared a photo on Instagram with the caption “Bella, our love” and the date of Tuesday, indicating her daughter’s birth.
Messages of congratulations poured in from fellow players like top-ranked Iga Swiatek and Viktorija Golubic, with whom Bencic won a silver medal for Switzerland in doubles at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
Bencic clinched the gold medal in singles, defeating Markéta Vondroušová in the final, who later went on to win the Wimbledon title in 2023.
Bencic has expressed her desire to return to professional tennis as a mother. Since announcing her pregnancy in November, her ranking has dropped from No. 14 to 92.
The tennis events at the Paris Olympics are set to begin in three months on July 27th.
