Mookie Betts had a great game, getting three hits and bringing in two runs. Gavin Stone, a rookie pitcher, did exceptionally well, not allowing any hits in the first 15 batters he faced. The Los Angeles Dodgers won 5-2 against the San Diego Padres in a game that got heated and was delayed for more than two hours due to rain.

Things got tense in the fifth inning when Dodgers catcher Will Smith and Padres outfielder Jurickson Profar got into a heated argument, leading both teams’ players to come onto the field. Luckily, it didn’t escalate further than words.

Stone, who now has his second win in the major leagues, pitched for 6 2/3 innings and allowed two runs. He was doing perfectly until he walked Tyler Wade in the sixth inning, but a double play quickly took care of that.

The Padres got their first hit when Kyle Higashioka singled, followed by Jackson Merrill’s single, and then Fernando Tatis Jr.’s double, tying the game 1-1. Stone managed to end the inning with a line drive out to center field.

The Dodgers took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning with three runs. Gavin Lux hit a single, breaking the tie, and Betts followed with another RBI single. Shohei Ohtani added to the score with a sacrifice fly. Wade’s single in the seventh inning scored a run for the Padres, ending Stone’s night on the mound.

However, Daniel Hudson struck out all three batters in the eighth inning, and Evan Phillips closed the game with a scoreless ninth inning, securing his fifth save.

Stone, in his longest start yet in his seven career starts, allowed five hits and pitched 88 pitches. He had struggled in his previous two outings this year, giving up a total of eight runs and 13 hits over eight innings. Padres starter Matt Waldron pitched five innings, allowing one run and three hits, striking out four, and walking four.

The game was delayed by 2 hours and 15 minutes due to wet weather, which is rare for baseball season in Los Angeles. This was the second rain delay at Dodger Stadium this year.
