Luis Castillo pitched seven strong innings, allowing only two hits, to secure his first win in five starts this season. Cal Raleigh, hitting a career-high four times, including a home run, helped the Seattle Mariners secure a 7-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies on a chilly Saturday night.

Julio Rodríguez also contributed with four hits and two RBIs for the Mariners. The win extended the Rockies’ losing streak to six games and pushed their record to 4-16, with four of those losses being shutouts. It marks the worst start in Rockies history.

The temperature at the start of the game was a frigid 33 degrees, dropping to 31 as the game progressed. A doubleheader is planned for Sunday to compensate for the series opener postponed due to a snowstorm that blanketed greater Denver with 7 inches of snow.

Castillo, with a record of 1-4, struck out nine batters and walked one, significantly improving his ERA from 5.82 to 4.40. Last year, he nearly threw a perfect game against the Rockies.

Mariners manager Scott Servais praised Castillo’s performance despite the challenging weather conditions, emphasizing his determination and focus. Castillo himself, speaking through an interpreter, acknowledged the cold but remained focused on his passion for the game.

The Rockies struggled to produce offense against Castillo, managing only two hits. Nolan Jones commented on Castillo’s effective pitching, noting his precision with fastball, slider, and changeup placements.

Dakota Hudson, with a record of 0-4, struggled in his latest outing, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits and five walks over three innings. This marks his fifth consecutive loss and sixth straight decision defeat since last September.

Reflecting on his performance, Hudson admitted to facing challenges, including grip issues, but refused to make excuses. Despite the cold weather, he acknowledged it as part of the game and expressed his determination to improve.

Cal Raleigh made an impact for the team, hitting his fourth home run of the season in the second inning with a shot to the opposite field, landing in the left-field bleachers. He later contributed with an RBI single in the third inning, extending his team’s lead to 2-0.
