Arsenal right-back Cedric Soares reportedly turned down a transfer to Benfica in January due to concerns over his wages, as per Portuguese newspaper record.
The former Portugal international has seen a decline in his role at the Emirates Stadium and has not made a single appearance in the Premier League this season. Last season, he featured in only two league matches for Arsenal before being loaned out to Fulham for the second half of the campaign.
Cedric joined North London in the summer of 2020 on a free transfer after a six-month loan spell at Arsenal from Southampton. In total, he has appeared in 61 matches across various competitions for the club, contributing two goals and five assists.
Facing stiff competition in the right-back position, the 32-year-old has struggled to secure regular playing time. Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu are capable options for the role, while the injured Jurrien Timber can also fill in when necessary.
Cedric’s contract at Arsenal expires in the summer, and he is expected to depart the club on a free transfer. Benfica has reportedly withdrawn from pursuing the defender due to his financial demands.
Reports suggest that Turkey could be his next destination, with Besiktas, Trabzonspor, and Galatasaray expressing interest in signing him.
