Miami Dolphins pass-rusher Bradley Chubb’s season came to an abrupt end on Sunday as he suffered a torn ACL in his right knee during a 56-19 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, as announced by coach Mike McDaniel on Monday. Chubb sustained a noncontact injury in the late fourth quarter and was subsequently carted off the field, leading to his immediate exclusion from the remainder of the game.

The decision to keep Chubb and other defensive starters on the field during a significant defeat sparked criticism on social media. McDaniel, in his second year as head coach, expressed regret on Sunday, acknowledging that, in hindsight, he would have preferred not to have Chubb in the game, given the outcome. Despite the criticism, McDaniel emphasized that the players wanted to continue playing, and he ultimately made the call to let them do so.

Chubb, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, had been a key player for the Dolphins, leading the team with 11 sacks this season. His role expanded after linebacker Jaelan Phillips suffered an Achilles injury in Week 12. McDaniel indicated on Monday that the team would explore the free-agent market while maintaining confidence in the existing roster.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time Chubb has dealt with a torn ACL; he had previously torn the ACL in his left knee in 2019 while playing for the Denver Broncos and also suffered a torn left ACL in high school.

In addition to Chubb’s injury, cornerback Xavien Howard left Sunday’s game with a foot injury. While McDaniel does not anticipate surgery for Howard, he ruled him out for the upcoming crucial game against the Buffalo Bills, describing his status as “week-to-week.” Howard, a 2022 Pro Bowler, has been a significant contributor to the Dolphins’ defense this season.

Regarding quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who left the game late with a shoulder injury, McDaniel expressed confidence that the injury is not a major concern and expects Tagovailoa to play against the Bills despite being the NFL’s leading passer.
