Draymond Green Discusses LeBron, Lakers-Warriors Rumors; Didn’t Want to Trade Kuminga

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green is eager to provide clarity regarding his involvement in the attempted acquisition of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James during the NBA trade deadline frenzy.

Reports from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne suggested that Green had initiated contact with agent Rich Paul, who represents both Green and James, as the Warriors explored the possibility of acquiring the 20-time All-Star. However, Green sought to set the record straight during the NBA All-Star Game ALTCAST on truTV.

Clarifying the situation, Green emphasized, “It came out almost like I’m initiating these talks. Like Draymond contacted LeBron. No, it came to my desk. Something came over to my desk, and I was like, ‘Hmm, that’s interesting.’ Let me dive in a little bit. And so, you know, you tend to, you know, use relationships. Rich is my agent as well, so I can have that conversation with Rich. But I didn’t initiate these talks.”

Green further underscored that the Warriors would have declined the opportunity if it meant trading Jonathan Kuminga for James.

Regarding the potential trade, Bleacher Report highlighted Green’s stance, tweeting, “Draymond says he wouldn’t trade Kuminga for LeBron 👀.”

Ultimately, James remained with the Lakers, expressing “no interest” in being traded and reaffirming his commitment to the Los Angeles organization.

While the potential acquisition of James could have been a significant move for the struggling Warriors, who currently hold a 27-26 record and occupy 10th place in the Western Conference, the Lakers, sitting ninth with a 30-26 record, are also navigating their own challenges.

However, James continues to excel individually, averaging 24.8 points, 7.8 assists, and 7.2 rebounds across 48 games in the 2023-24 season. Additionally, he finds himself in the final year of his contract, although retaining a player option for the 2024-25 season.
