Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit has called on the Gunners to secure the services of Brighton & Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson.
The London club has been lacking a prominent No. 9 for quite some time now. While Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah have been in the ranks, they have faced criticism for their inconsistent finishing, with Jesus also grappling with injuries during his tenure at the Emirates Stadium.
In light of this, pundits have been advocating for Arsenal to bolster their striking options. Sharing his perspective on the matter, Petit commended Jesus’ effort but pointed out his shortcomings in front of the goal. He believes that signing a talent like Evan Ferguson could potentially enhance Jesus’ performance, stating (via Football.London):
“Gabriel Jesus always gives his all, but he always lacks the coolness in front of the opposing goal. Maybe a well-known newcomer would somehow give him wings. Evan Ferguson would prevail because of his effectiveness and his coolness.”
Despite being just 19 years old, Ferguson has showcased his abilities at the highest level. With six goals and two assists in 31 appearances across all competitions for Brighton this season, albeit starting only 16 of those matches, he has demonstrated promise. However, with his contract running until 2029, acquiring his services is likely to come with a hefty price tag.
Meanwhile, Jesus has contributed eight goals and five assists in 23 games across various competitions for Arsenal this season.
