Chelsea are eyeing Athletic Club winger Nico Williams as a potential summer signing, with Raheem Sterling possibly exiting the club, reports Express. The Blues are gearing up for the summer transfer window after a relatively quiet January and are keen to bolster their squad with quality additions.

Todd Boehly and the Clearlake Group took control of Chelsea in 2022, with Sterling being their first signing ahead of the 2022-23 season for around £50 million. However, Sterling has struggled to consistently perform since his arrival.

While the initial investment in a proven Premier League talent wasn’t concerning, Sterling’s inconsistent displays have prompted Chelsea to contemplate his departure, according to transfer expert Dean Jones.

Raheem Sterling

Despite receiving interest from the Saudi Pro League last summer, Sterling wasn’t inclined to leave Chelsea. However, the club is now reportedly open to offloading him, given his 17 goals in 71 appearances.

In search of a replacement, Chelsea are eyeing Spain international Nico Williams from Athletic Club. The 21-year-old has garnered significant attention in Europe due to his impressive performances for the Basque side.

Although Williams extended his contract with Athletic Club in December, his release clause of around £43 million remains attractive to Chelsea.

The English side has extensively scouted the forward, and his notable contributions of six goals and 11 assists in 27 appearances this season make him a compelling target. Moreover, Williams has previously been linked with Barcelona and Real Madrid.
