Former Chelsea star Frank Leboeuf has expressed his reluctance to see Thiago Silva remain at Stamford Bridge for another season.

Silva joined Chelsea from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in 2020 and has been granted multiple one-year extensions to prolong his tenure at the club. Now 39 years old, Silva is nearing the conclusion of his illustrious career.

Despite missing the EFL Cup final defeat against Liverpool due to a minor injury, Silva has demonstrated his durability by making 29 appearances across competitions this season.

However, Leboeuf believes it’s time for Chelsea to part ways with Silva. In an interview with BetVictor (via Metro), he stated:

“Thiago Silva has been a fantastic player for Chelsea, and I don’t want to deny that, but there is a time for everything to come to an end. The young defenders at the club have proven that they are ready to play, and I’m not even sure they would’ve been better off with him in the team against Liverpool.”

Leboeuf further remarked:

“I’m not sure it will be a good thing if he stays next season. It is time for him to leave, and time for us all to say thank you to him. I had my time, Marcel Desailly had his time, and so did John Terry; there is an end for everyone.”

As Silva’s contract with Chelsea nears its conclusion, the Brazilian icon’s tenure at Stamford Bridge, which includes 146 appearances and three trophies, including the UEFA Champions League, may soon come to a close.
