NFL Rumors: Foye Oluokun, Jaguars Agree to New 4-Year, $45M Contract in Free Agency

Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Foye Oluokun has secured his future with the team by agreeing to a new long-term contract.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Oluokun’s new deal spans four years and is worth $45 million. This contract includes $22.5 million in guaranteed money upon signing, effectively committing Oluokun to the Jaguars until the conclusion of the 2027 season.

The agreement comes as Oluokun was heading into the final year of his previous three-year, $45 million contract inked with the Jaguars back in March 2022. Notably, the previous deal had no remaining guaranteed money and featured three void years from 2025 to 2027.

From the Jaguars’ perspective, this new deal serves a dual purpose. Not only does it solidify Oluokun’s presence on the team, but it also helps alleviate his substantial salary cap hit for the upcoming season. Currently, Oluokun carries a cap charge of $21.8 million, ranking as the fourth-highest on the team behind Christian Kirk, Josh Allen, and Cam Robinson.

Josh Allen’s own cap hit is expected to decrease once he finalizes a long-term agreement. His current $24 million cap allocation stems from the franchise tag, which he has yet to formally accept for the upcoming season.

Oluokun’s impact on the field has been formidable, particularly evident in his prolific tackling prowess. Dating back to his final season with the Atlanta Falcons in 2021, he has consistently racked up impressive tackle numbers, surpassing 173 combined tackles in each of the past three seasons.

Notably, he led the league in tackles in both 2021 (192) and 2022 (184). His tally of 239 solo tackles over the last two seasons stands as a testament to his defensive prowess, surpassing any other player in the NFL during that timeframe.

With Oluokun’s presence bolstering the team’s defense, alongside notable performances from players like Josh Allen and Travon Walker who combined for 27.5 sacks last season, the Jaguars possess a solid foundation on defense.

Looking ahead, if the team can capitalize on a promising draft to address additional areas of need, they could position themselves as formidable contenders within the AFC South, potentially challenging the Houston Texans for the division’s top spot in the upcoming season.
