David Fry hit a two-run homer and Andrés Giménez hit a solo shot during Cleveland’s three-run fourth inning, helping the Guardians shut out the Chicago White Sox 7-0 on Sunday. This victory ended Cleveland’s three-game losing streak.
Logan Allen pitched six scoreless innings, allowing Cleveland to salvage the final game of the four-game series in Chicago and maintain their position in first place in the AL Central. Despite being hit by a comebacker in the first pitch of the game, Allen continued and performed well. He allowed six hits, walked one, and struck out three.
Guardians manager Stephen Vogt praised Allen’s resilience, saying, “He’s a bulldog. For him to give us six shutout like that, he was outstanding today.”
In his previous game against Detroit, Allen struggled, allowing seven runs in just 2 1/3 innings. However, he bounced back in this game.
Allen acknowledged the challenges of being a starting pitcher, especially after a tough outing, saying, “Sometimes it’s tough being a starter and having to wait those four days…That’s all you can think about after a bad outing is trying to right your wrongs and give your team a chance to win.”
The bullpen trio of Nick Sandlin, Hunter Gaddis, and Sam Hentges each pitched a hitless inning to secure the shutout victory for Cleveland. With this loss, the White Sox’s season-high four-game winning streak came to an end, and they were shut out for the 10th time this season, the most in the majors.
