Jose Trevino smashed two of New York’s five home runs, while Luis Gil pitched six scoreless innings to help the Yankees secure a 10-6 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday.

Trevino’s homers came in the third inning for two runs and in the eighth inning, adding another run to extend the Yankees’ lead to 10-5. Gleyber Torres also contributed with a three-run homer in the eighth inning.

“For us, the most important thing is getting the win,” Trevino commented.

Aaron Judge hit his 10th home run of the season, and Jahmai Jones hit his first major league homer for the Yankees, who improved to 27-15 for the season, matching their season-high 12 games over .500.

Jose Siri’s grand slam in the seventh inning narrowed the gap for the Rays to just one run. However, the Yankees’ relief pitching managed to hold off the Rays’ rally.

Despite the loss, Rays manager Kevin Cash acknowledged the positive aspects of the game, stating, “I still think we did some really good things today.”

Luis Gil, who was hit on the shin by a comebacker in the third inning, continued pitching effectively, scattering three hits and lowering his ERA from 2.92 to 2.51. “The most important thing today was being able to pitch six innings,” Gil said.
