Getafe president Angel Torres has provided insight into the future of Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez. Torres stated that Greenwood is enthusiastic about the prospect of extending his stay at the club for another year.

Following the dismissal of charges against Greenwood by the Crown Prosecution Service last year, which allowed him to return to the pitch, Manchester United opted to send him on loan to Getafe. This decision was partly influenced by concerns about potential repercussions in the Premier League had he remained at Old Trafford.

In La Liga, the 22-year-old has experienced a resurgence in his career, becoming an integral part of Getafe’s squad this season. He has contributed seven goals and five assists in 24 appearances across various competitions.

As the conclusion of Greenwood’s loan spell approaches, discussions have arisen regarding his future.

Torres expressed optimism about the player’s situation and revealed Greenwood’s strong desire to continue his journey with Getafe for another season.

“We had to carefully consider our options,” Torres stated in an interview with El Partizado de COPE, reflecting on the decision to acquire Greenwood last summer. “Upon learning of the circumstances, we have observed his progress. He appears to be in good spirits and comfortable here. He’s very keen on the idea of extending his stay for another year.”

“It’s a matter that (Manchester United) have to decide. There is new ownership. They have to say it. In Spain, he has a market, but they have money. Barça’s way of playing is going well, but it depends on Manchester United. If it’s true, he’ll tell me,” he added.

Mason Greenwood is expected to feature when Getafe faces Barcelona in Liga action on Saturday (February 24).
