Phoenix Suns guard Grayson Allen suffered a re-aggravation of a right ankle sprain during Game 2 of their playoff series against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Head coach Frank Vogel confirmed the injury, stating that X-rays were negative and Allen would be considered day-to-day.

This setback came after Allen had previously injured the same ankle in Game 1 and was listed as questionable for Game 2. Despite receiving continuous treatment, Allen started the game and played 17 minutes before the re-injury occurred in the third quarter.

The incident happened when Allen stepped on Minnesota point guard Mike Conley Jr.’s foot while defending a layup attempt. Allen required assistance to the locker room following the play. The 28-year-old, who recently signed a lucrative contract extension with Phoenix, has been pivotal for the team, averaging 13.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game while shooting efficiently from the field.

During Allen’s time on the court in Game 2, the Suns outscored the Timberwolves, but in his absence, Minnesota gained an advantage, outscoring Phoenix by 13 points. With Allen sidelined, the Suns reduced their rotation from eight to seven players, with Royce O’Neale taking his place.

Despite Eric Gordon’s notable performance off the bench, the Suns struggled against the Timberwolves, who displayed superior depth and performance from their key players.

The injury complicates matters for the Suns, who were already facing adversity after a significant loss in Game 1. With the series now at 2-0 in favor of the Timberwolves, the Suns are under pressure to turn things around quickly.

Vogel may need to adjust the rotation or consider adding another player to compensate for Allen’s absence. However, with Game 3 approaching rapidly, there’s uncertainty about Allen’s availability and his ability to recover in time to make an impact.
