Holly Lawrence praises the benefit of a solid winter block after Miami T100 success

Despite her past achievements, including winning the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in 2016 and securing podium finishes as recent as 2019, Holly Lawrence often found herself underestimated by pundits and fans when it came to predictions for the Miami T100 podium.

However, on the day of the race, the British athlete proved why it was a mistake to overlook her, showcasing her prowess across all aspects of the competition and clinching third place. This marked her first podium finish since June 2023.

Reflecting on her performance in a recap on her YouTube channel, Lawrence attributed her success to meticulous winter training alongside her coach and partner, Sean Jefferson.

“Given that the season is just beginning, Lawrence can draw considerable confidence from her performance in Miami. As one of the contracted athletes on the T100 Tour, she has already accumulated significant points towards the overall rankings.”

Responding to remarks labeling her as “back,” the 34-year-old acknowledged that while she hadn’t been at her peak in recent years, her Miami performance wasn’t her pinnacle either. She expressed belief that she has much more potential to tap into.

“Everyone was saying Holly was back, but I didn’t feel like it was an exceptional performance. I believe there’s still plenty more to come. I haven’t been able to showcase my true potential in the past few years, but this season has been promising with a robust base phase over the past months.”

In discussions with Jefferson, they identified that skipping a late-season event in 2023 allowed Lawrence more time to establish a solid foundation for the upcoming season.

“Skipping a late-season event gave me more time to focus on lower-intensity training, which is crucial for building a strong base. Typically, winter training involves a lot of this foundational work.”

With a strong base established, Lawrence now aims to secure her first-ever victory over the 100km distance. While she hasn’t confirmed her next race yet, the second stop of the T100 Tour is scheduled for April 13-14 in Singapore.

Fans can anticipate watching triathlon stars like Potter, Brownlee, and Beaugrand as they compete in the T100 Tour, building up to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
