The Houston Cougars were happy to reach the Sweet 16 again. Their game against Texas A&M got super intense, especially during overtime. Emanuel Sharp made a crucial 3-pointer at the start of overtime, which helped Houston stay ahead and win the game with a score of 100-95.
Coach Kelvin Sampson believed the tough games they played in the Big 12 conference prepared them well for this matchup. Even though Texas A&M made an impressive comeback in the last two minutes of regulation, Houston managed to hold on and win.
Sharp scored 30 points before fouling out, and his teammates stepped up in overtime to secure the victory. Houston’s win also meant that all the top-seeded teams advanced to the Sweet 16, which doesn’t happen often.
Next, they’ll face Duke in the South Region semifinals, which will be Houston’s fifth consecutive Sweet 16 appearance. The team is playing with the memory of Reggie Chaney, who was a key player and passed away last year.
Jamal Shead, who had a great game with 21 points and 10 assists, mentioned how they’re motivated by Chaney’s memory.
On the other side, Texas A&M fought hard but fell short. They had a good March run but couldn’t make it past Houston. Houston’s move to the Big 12 has been successful, adding to the SEC’s tough time in the tournament.
It was an intense game with both teams giving their all, but Houston came out on top and is looking forward to the next round.
