Carlos Alcaraz won’t be playing in this week’s Monte Carlo Masters because of an injury to his right arm, he announced on social media on Tuesday.
“I’ve been trying to recover from a pronator teres injury in my right arm until the last minute, but unfortunately, I’m unable to play! I was looking forward to it… See you next year,” said the 20-year-old.
According to the ATP website, World No. 3 Alcaraz was seen practicing in Monte Carlo with his right forearm taped. This is the second year in a row that Alcaraz has missed the tournament.
As a result of Alcaraz’s withdrawal, Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego will enter the main draw as a lucky loser and will face Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime in the second round.
Alcaraz, a two-time Major winner, has a record of 15 wins and 4 losses this season, including successfully defending his title in Indian Wells.
