Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Ryan Pepiot is likely to be placed on the injured list on Wednesday. This decision comes three days after he left Sunday’s game due to being struck on his left calf by a 107.5 mph line drive from the New York Mets’ Starling Marte.

“We’ll probably have more news tomorrow, but it looks likely,” Rays manager Kevin Cash mentioned after Tuesday night’s 5-1 win against the Chicago White Sox.

Before the game, Cash mentioned that Pepiot was scheduled to undergo an additional CT scan upon arriving at the ballpark, as he was feeling more sore than expected. Cash confirmed that the scan revealed no fractures.

Although Pepiot fell to the ground immediately after being hit by Marte’s powerful hit, he managed to get back up on his own. However, he was taken out of the game after throwing a couple of warm-up pitches. Pepiot engaged in catch on Monday.

Pepiot holds a record of 3-2 with a 3.68 ERA in seven starts. He was acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers last December in a trade that involved the Rays sending ace Tyler Glasnow to the National League club.

Right-hander Taj Bradley is expected to take Pepiot’s place in the rotation after being sidelined for the entire season due to a right pectoral strain.

Bradley rejoined the team over the weekend but was not added to the roster immediately after making two starts at Triple-A Durham, where he allowed one run and two hits over 11 innings.
