The Jacksonville Jaguars initially held a comfortable lead in their Week 7 clash with the New Orleans Saints on “Thursday Night Football,” entering the fourth quarter with a 24-9 advantage.
However, the Saints mounted an impressive comeback, equalizing the game with just 6 minutes and 38 seconds remaining. This rally was ignited by a one-yard rushing touchdown by Taysom Hill and a spectacular toe-tapping touchdown reception by Michael Thomas, followed by a successful two-point conversion courtesy of Alvin Kamara.
In the end, the Jaguars managed to secure their fourth consecutive victory, defeating the Saints 31-24. The hero of the evening was wide receiver Christian Kirk, who had garnered attention with his four-year, $72 million contract in free agency during the 2022 offseason. Kirk’s game-winning touchdown came on a 44-yard reception from a simple underneath route.
Kirk, a 26-year-old who was selected in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Cardinals out of Texas A&M, humbly reflected on his remarkable play, saying, “I don’t think I’ve run that fast since college. That was some vintage stuff, I guess. I’m glad I was able to do it in that moment.”
Next Gen Stats revealed that Kirk’s catch-and-run touchdown reached a top speed of 19.76 miles per hour, exceeding expectations by gaining 27 yards after the catch. It was Kirk’s outstanding performance that proved pivotal for the Jaguars in securing their fourth consecutive victory.
With a 5-2 record, Jacksonville now finds itself three games above .500, marking the first time they have achieved this since the conclusion of the 2017 season when they reached the AFC Championship Game.
