Jannik Sinner secures a career-high ranking of No. 3 by advancing to his third consecutive final, his second this season, at the ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam. The Italian sensation dominated home favorite Tallon Griekspoor in the semifinal, clinching victory in straight sets 6-2, 6-4.

Sinner’s triumph guarantees his ascent to the top three, a feat he will achieve this week with a Rotterdam final victory. Even if he were to lose in Rotterdam, Daniil Medvedev’s withdrawal from the Qatar Open, where he was set to defend ranking points, ensures Sinner’s rise to third place.

Here’s the breakdown: Sinner currently holds the fourth spot with 8,070 points. His Rotterdam campaign adds another 30 points to reach 8,100, trailing Medvedev’s third-place standing of 8,265 points.

Medvedev, however, forfeits 500 points by skipping his Rotterdam title defense.

Should Sinner emerge victorious in the Rotterdam final against Alex de Minaur, he’ll surpass Medvedev with 8,270 points. Otherwise, he’ll maintain his No. 4 position in Monday’s updated rankings.

Meanwhile, Medvedev’s inability to defend 250 points from his Qatar Open triumph leaves him with 8,015 points. With Sinner not defending any points during that week, his tally of at least 8,100 should secure his overtaking of the Russian.
