Button then moved to McLaren for the 2009 season alongside teammate and championship rival Lewis Hamilton. In 2010, Button narrowly missed out on winning the Drivers’ Championship again and finished the season in fifth place.

He remained with McLaren until the end of his career in 2016, scoring two podiums in his final two years with the team. His final F1 race was the 2017 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where he finished in 8th place. Following his retirement, he has maintained a presence in F1 by joining McLaren as an ambassador and becoming a commentator on F1 broadcasts.
