Jesús Sánchez smashed a three-run home run and hit two doubles to lead the Miami Marlins to an 8-2 victory over the Texas Rangers on Friday night.
Sánchez’s homer came off reliever Jesus Tinoco, who had surrendered back-to-back singles before Sánchez launched his seventh pitch of the at-bat 417 feet to center field, giving Miami a 7-2 lead in the seventh inning.
Marlins manager Skip Schumaker praised Sánchez’s performance, highlighting his ability to make impactful hits. The win marked the Marlins’ first winning month since September of last year, with a record of 14-13 in May. Meanwhile, the Rangers, who are the defending World Series champions, fell three games below .500 for the second time this month.
Sánchez expressed confidence in the Marlins’ offensive capabilities, noting their ability to generate results and win games. This turnaround is significant considering the Marlins’ rough start to the season, where they lost their first nine games, marking the worst start in the club’s history.
Schumaker commended the team’s resilience, emphasizing their commitment to playing hard every day despite the challenging start to the season.
Nick Gordon contributed to the Marlins’ scoring with a two-run homer in the second inning off Rangers starter José Ureña, who was making his first career start against his former team. Ureña was replaced after just 2 1/3 innings, allowing four hits and four runs, two of which were earned.
