Philadelphia 76ers’ standout center Joel Embiid, currently sidelined with an injured lateral meniscus in his left knee, expressed his determination to represent Team USA at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, provided his health allows.
Embiid’s absence from the court dates back to January 30th. Following a successful surgery on February 6th, the 76ers disclosed that Embiid would undergo reevaluation after four weeks.
According to Tim Bontemps of ESPN, Embiid conveyed that he is feeling positive but refrained from specifying a comeback timeline. Nevertheless, he remains optimistic about returning to action sometime within the ongoing season.
Having contemplated three distinct options, Embiid confirmed his commitment to play for Team USA back in September last year.
“I love all three options, you know, with my home country, which I love a lot,” Embiid shared. “But I really want to participate in the Olympics, that’s been my goal and my dream. And you add that with the fact that my son is American, and I’ve been here for such a long time. … I’m really thankful for the opportunity. France — the commitment they were willing to make — I really appreciate it. It was a tough decision.”
Embiid’s statistics this season underscore his undeniable impact, boasting averages of 35.3 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists across 34 appearances.
However, at present, Embiid is focused on his rehabilitation endeavors, aspiring to make a triumphant return to the 76ers’ lineup and propel them to a successful postseason campaign.
